Detroit, MI UX Studio - User Experience Contract

Sr. UX Researchers help product teams focus on the end user, and are responsible for leading qualitative and quantitative user research initiatives that influence the evolution of products as well as ensuring the usability of our products. They inspire change by evangelizing for the integration of research methods into the product development process. Researchers are embedded in product teams but engage with their peers as part and other product team members. 

The ideal candidate is driven by the desire to be a user advocate and is passionate about gathering insights based on direct observation and evidence-based best practices in the field to create products that are useful, usable, and satisfying. They will also be conducting regular usability tests with internal and external users.

Responsibilities

  • Validate new designs through informal or formalized user feedback sessions with internal and external users.
  • Plan and carry out interviews and surveys to inform future and current projects.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and clients to gain deeper insights.
  • Establish and manage relationships with research-related vendors when applicable.
  • Conduct research activities as needed to support your particular product area.
  • Collaborate with product managers and UX designers to ensure research translates into business impact.
  • Mentor and coach the UX team on best practices and coach them to conduct their own when applicable.
  • The ideal candidate will take the initiative to introduce impact user research to product teams.
  • Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years conducting user research for software/web-based products with stories to share
  • MS or PhD in a human behavior-related field (Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Social Science, or Anthropology).
  • Flexible approach to research: Our goal is to provide product teams value. Determine and execute the right research method for the question at hand. 
  • Competent in qualitative methodologies such as usability testing, contextual inquiry, and interviewing.
  • Able to quickly share research results with teams (top line results in hours, not days or weeks).
  • Able to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and act as a strategic partner in product decisions.
  • Ability to perform all research-related tasks in the research project life cycle: Create a test plan, write a screener, recruit users, schedule users, moderate test, create video clip highlights, top line results, create research findings summary, and effectively present and share result.
  • Experience with remote testing tools and best practices.
  • An appetite for creative problem solving with a positive attitude.
  • Preferred

  • Strong experimental design and/or A/B testing skills; you understand how to plan, execute, and analyze experiments in a statistically rigorous way is a plus.
  • Familiar with survey design and analysis is a plus.
  • Familiar with analysis of eye-tracking data is a plus.
  • Relevant experience with enrollment, or payment systems is a plus.
