Steve: Hey everybody, welcome back to 3 In 3. This episode is focused on Dynamics 365 and the Unified Interface and with me I’ve got Scott Roller, our Senior Consultant on the Dynamics team so let’s jump right in.
Scott, what is the Unified Interface?
Scott: Unified Interface is the new way that Microsoft Dynamics is going to present data to users. It takes over for all the forms and the field layouts and the views. It is a model driven app built in Power Apps. The Unified Interface is replacing the old classic interface.
Steve: Excellent. So it’s got a much improved modern look and much more scalable and modular and therefore responsive to different devices as well. There’s a lot of benefits to the Unified Interface.
So Scott the second question would be what other things or what’s specifically interesting about the Unified Interface that our customers should be looking at?
Scott: Well the Unified Interface is built on PowerApps, is model driven, has the ability to fit many different form factors. It looks great on your phone and looks great on the computer screen and it gives us a lot of different abilities to do things that PowerApps allows us to do too and interact with a lot of the Power Platform. The biggest reason is that the classic Dynamics 365 interface is going away and you need to start planning for that.
Steve: Excellent. So for any of our customers that are using the Power Platform today, switching to the Unified Interface is a really natural transition and it’s really great looking as you pointed out and there’s a date looming where they’re going to get rid of the classic interface that customers need to be aware of. The classic interface is scheduled to sunset around October first.
Alright so that leads me into the third question which is what should our customers be doing about the Unified Interface today?
Scott: Well, since there’s that looming date and it’s going away and Microsoft is going to turn off the classic interface at some point in the near future this year, then you need to start analyzing your system, making sure that you know that you’re ready for the new Unified interface. Make sure that all of your fields are in the right order, everything’s laid out correctly and that you’re ready to go. Microsoft has provided some insight and some tools to make sure that what you currently have is consistent and ready for the Unified Interface. There’s also professionals out there that can help you with that transition as well.
